According to professional blogger and marketing adviser Denise Wakeman, “your business blog should be the hub or home base for your online activity.”
I agree. And want to share just 3 of the many reasons I believe you should blog daily (or at least regularly).
1. Blogging daily forces you to think about your business or area of interest in a way that invites improvement.
Most people you meet don’t give a lot of thought to the activities they are involved in on a daily basis. I mean, sure they think about it. But not the kind of deep thinking that invites improvement.
Dr W. Deming revolutionized Japanese industry by getting them to see that small improvements made daily add up to huge improvements over time. Daily writing about your business or area of interest forces you to think about it in ways you’ve probably never thought about it before, to think about your topic from multiple view points, to consider questions you may not have asked, and to articulate your area of expertise in a way you may never have articulated it.
All this thinking and clarifying deepens your own understanding of the topic. This clarity gives you focus and a greater sense of direction. Improvement naturally follows just as night follows day. You begin to move forward effortlessly through life. You stand out from competitors in your industry. Blogging daily invites improvement.
2. Blogging daily develops your writing voice.
Three years ago you didn’t need a writing voice. You could get by just fine without it. You still can today. But – the world is changing. We’re more connected. Technology is bringing us closer together. Our lives are more transparent … and more dependent on our ability to communicate through the written word. It’s no longer enough to have a shinning personality and to work hard. You need to get your personality across in writing. The way to do that is to write a lot … and often.
Blogging is one of the quickest, most accessible platforms for writing a lot … and … for getting the valuable feedback on your writing that tells you if people are understanding where you are coming from. The more you blog the more natural and free-flowing your writing becomes. You begin to express yourself in writing with a unique style and character. This unique style and character is what writers refer to as your VOICE. And it’s your VOICE that will attract people and customers to you. Blogging daily develops your writing voice.
3. Blogging daily builds a regular following of readers.
Blogs are an active medium. They invite participation and involvement. The more frequent you post the more frequently readers will return to interact and see the latest thinking on your subject — especially as your voice develops and your breadth of knowledge on your topic increases.
Readers will begin to view you as a trusted adviser, a source of authoritative content. And this builds your following. It also increases the level of trust people place in you. Which in turn increases your influence in your market. If you’re trying to build a business or business presence online, influence translates to sales and revenue. Blogging daily builds a regular following of readers.
But writing daily doesn’t mean posting any kind of crap that comes to mind …
You should (as I stated in point one) think carefully about your subject and post information your target audience will find useful.
If you blog for business then each post should be written with new prospects or existing customers in mind.
Remember: The internet is a relationship building tool. Focus on the people you want to reach and post content that will advance your relationship with them.
