Ebook Writing: For Fun, Credibility, and Profit

Before the dust could settle on my keyboard this morning I gave birth to a new writing project.  This time it’s an ebook for an important client of mine.

Important because, not only will I be writing his ebook … but … I’ll also be creating the sales copy, the blog posts and the articles that will be used to get traffic and sell the ebook.

If it proves successful — if it makes enough money to justify splurging out on paid advertising — I’ll be handling that too.  So yes, this client is important to me.

There’s something else that makes this client important and worth putting in my best effort:  The client is me.

Interesting thing is, I have no idea what the ebook is going to be about.  It’s more of an experimental project to document the process I go through and the challenges I face to get an ebook written and published within a week.

If you’re interested you can read more about it here on my blog about rapid ebook writing. There’s not a lot to read, mind you. As I said, I only started the project this morning.

Now, if you want a clue as to what the new ebook will be about I can only guess it will have something to do with either the writing profession or about marketing with the written word since this is my general area of expertise.

As a side note:  You should also be aware that if you are thinking about writing an ebook then it’s a good idea to not think only in terms of one book.  You should think in terms of a series of books.  Because let’s face it, one ebook probably isn’t going to make you a six-figure income – although it is possible, and plenty of people have done it.  I heard one ebook about bird watching or something (real birds, by the way) sold over $500,000 worth in the first year.

That’s not my goal.  In fact, I have no financial goal for this project whatsoever.  My only goal is to get the ebook written as quickly as possible and to make it of high enough quality that my readers are truly benefited by it.  In other words, My ebook will solve a problem or help them fulfill an opportunity they want to fulfill.

There is another reason why I’m doing this. It’s a proven fact that once you write more than three books on a topic that your level of credibility shoots through the roof with those who either read your books or who, at the very least, see that you have written a bunch of material on the subject for which you are supposedly an expert. In fact, writing a bunch of material on your topic area instantly elevates you to the level of expert in most people’s minds.

But I digress.

Anyway, again, if you’re interested, you can follow my progress at my other blog. I’ll be posting progress reports at least daily throughout the writing process and probably continue throughout the marketing process.

If you do follow my progress then I’m sure you’ll gain useful insights into how to write, publish and sell your own ebooks either for profit or credibility or both.
